Migration from SAP to Odoo Enterprise 16 for an International Manufacturing Company

An international engineering and manufacturing company specializing in ventilated façade systems for exterior cladding chose GlobalOne as a strategic partner for its migration from SAP to Odoo Enterprise 16.

As of January 2025, the core Odoo modules – Accounting, Sales, CRM and Time Tracking – are already running in production. By the end of the year, a full integration of the Manufacturing module is planned.

Customer Profile

The customer is a highly specialized manufacturing company with projects across Europe and the USA, a strong engineering team and its own production of ventilated façade systems.Projects are complex and long-term, involving multiple stakeholders – architects, construction companies, investors and installation teams.

Challenges Before Odoo

Before starting the project, the company was using SAP to manage its main processes, supplemented by numerous Excel files and local tools. This led to:

  • Fragmented information between ERP, CRM and operational teams
  • Limited visibility into project and customer profitability
  • Difficult and costly adaptation of the system to new business requirements
  • Complicated integration with the production environment and time tracking
  • High dependence on external vendors for every significant change

The goal was to move to a more flexible platform that unifies finance, sales, commercial teams and production in a single system.

GlobalOne’s Approach

The project was planned and executed in several clearly defined phases:

  1. Process Audit and Solution Architecture
    • Mapping financial, sales and production processes
    • Analysing current usage of SAP and complementary tools
    • Defining the target operating model in Odoo 16 Enterprise
  2. Data Migration from SAP to Odoo
    • Structuring core master data (customers, vendors, products, projects)
    • Migrating key financial and operational data
    • Consistency and traceability checks and testing
  3. Phased Go-Live
    • First phase: Accounting, Sales, CRM and Time Tracking in production
    • Planned second phase: Manufacturing module (MRP) and deeper operations integration

Modules in Production (as of January 2025)

By early 2025, the following Odoo Enterprise 16 modules are live in production:

  • 🧾 Accounting
    • Automated posting of documents
    • Improved project and cost center reporting
    • Faster month-end closing
  • 🧩 Sales
    • Full tracking of quotations, contracts and sales orders in one system
    • Clear visibility into margins per quotation and project
    • Better revenue planning
  • 🤝 CRM
    • Centralized communication history with clients and partners
    • Opportunity pipeline aligned with the specific stages of façade projects
    • Better coordination between sales and technical teams
  • ⏱ Time Tracking
    • Recording working time per project and activity
    • More accurate calculation of project costs and team workload
    • Real-time control over utilization and efficiency

Next Phase: Manufacturing in Odoo by End of 2025

By the end of 2025, the project roadmap includes full integration of the Manufacturing (MRP) module in Odoo.

Key focus areas:

  • Defining structured BOMs (bills of materials) for different façade systems
  • Managing work centers and production operations
  • Capacity and lead-time planning per project
  • Real-time tracking of materials, scrap and costs
  • Integration with logistics and inventory for optimized stock levels

This will turn Odoo into a single platform covering the entire lifecycle – from the first customer contact, through quotation and contract, to production, delivery and invoicing.

Results So Far

Even after the first phase, the company reports:

  • Significantly improved visibility into financial results per project
  • Clearer coordination between sales, finance and operations
  • Reduced manual work in Excel and elimination of duplicated data
  • Faster response to changes in customer or project requirements

With the full implementation of the Manufacturing module by the end of 2025, further improvements are expected in lead times, cost control and production capacity planning.
